Botanicals
Calendula: Antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and skin soothing flower, calendula is a member of the daisy family. It is known as a powerful agent helping to heal and regenerate skin, reduce swelling and provide relief from inflammation and irritations and other skin discomforts. Calendula is rich in antioxidant compounds that protect skin from stressors causing dryness, irritation, breakouts and inflammation. Calendula seeds have a high concentration of linoleic and calendic acid that help to improve skin hydration to keep it healthy.
Chamomile: Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, gentle, skin-soothing rich in powerful flavonoids herb noted for its analgesic abilities to ease inflammation of joints, muscle pain, rheumatism and sprains, and help to heal and calm skin rashes, acne, and eczema. Since it contains flavonoids, including apigenin and quercetin, it is excellent choice to use in skin care to support skin regeneration and collagen production and protect free radical damage.
Caution: Chamomile belongs to the ragweed family and some people are allergic to ragweed.
Marshmallow root derives from the flowering perennial Althaea (Althaea officinalis) herb belonging to the Malvaceae family that is native to Europe, Northern Africa, and Western Asia. In addition to a thick polysaccharide rich substance called mucilage, it contains other beneficial plant compounds including flavonoids (L-rhamnose, D-galactose, D-galacturonic and D-glucuronic acid). It has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties that support skin health, relieve inflammation, soften and soothe sore or red skin and help to retain moisture and protect skin from harmful elements at the same time. Thus, it offers both soothing and anti-aging benefits. Marshmallow root is suitable to use on sensitive and easily irritated skin, reducing inflammation associated with eczema or rosacea. It is also beneficial to treat insect bites, minor burns, and wounds as well as ease the discomfort of sore and cracked nipples due to breastfeeding.
